Join madison moore, cultural critic, DJ, Assistant Professor of Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University and author of the book Fabulous: the Rise of the Beautiful Eccentric for a performance lecture with a difference.

There’s nothing like crawling home at 10am after being in a club for 10 hours or more, as though you’ve been mischievous, a bad boy, having gamed a capitalist system which says we should be up and at work by 10am, not just getting home!

Dance Mania: A Manifesto for Queer Nightlife is an autobiographical story of creativity, community and identity at night – the divine magic of being out. It’s also a story about how club spaces become sanctuaries for queer and trans people of colour, full of possibilities for self expression.

Why does so much black, brown and queer art centre on or emerge from club culture? What’s possible in the club space that isn’t in more traditional performance venues, or in real time? When the night gives way to day, what ephemeral traces are left behind? And what secret stories do they tell?

After the ‘lecture’ kick up your heels, hug your darlings and dance the night away in our late-night Bar Underground.
